Fien Duyck

Career story

Can you introduce yourself in a few sentences?

I am Fien Duyck, I am 36 years old and have been working at Joris Ide since 2009. At home, together with my husband Tom, I also have my hands full with my three little ones Finn, Viek, and Noore.

What is your function at Joris Ide?

I am the sales manager for the North of France and the contact person between the headquarters in Zwevezele and the various French branches.

After my internship during my bachelor's degree in network economics, which I completed at a competitor of Joris Ide, I had sworn never to work in a steel company.

How long have you been working at Joris Ide?

Since October 2009.

How did you end up at Joris Ide?

After my internship during my bachelor's degree in network economics, which I completed at a competitor of Joris Ide, I had sworn never to work in a steel company. After another year studying for a post-bachelor's degree in business management, I ended up at Joris Ide after some time searching. It was not an easy period to find a job after the 2008 banking crisis when many layoffs occurred. Everywhere they were looking for people with experience, but that is difficult when you have just graduated. At Joris Ide, I could start almost immediately and an added bonus: it was only 10 minutes from my parents' house where I still lived at the time. So I didn't have to get up too early ;)

What makes you the ideal person for this job?

Because I have had various roles (order entry, customer service projects, group user, sales CH, FR) during my 15 years at Joris Ide, I have acquired quite a bit of knowledge about the company, products, customers, and the people who work there. Both in Belgium and France.

How does a working day look like?

No two days are the same. I believe that to an outsider, my workday might look rather chaotic; from phone calls to emails to meetings... All of this to meet the customers' needs!

What would you still like to achieve at Joris Ide?

Keep growing on the northern French market.

I ended up in a pleasant office where I could be myself. I almost immediately revised my opinion about 'never working in a steel company'.
