Energy

Planet Passionate

Joris Ide aims to maintain a healthy energy status and increase both the direct use and on-site generation of renewable energy. By continuously installing more solar panels on our rooftops, we actively contribute to the global renewable energy mix.

By early 2025, nearly 15 000 solar panels had already been installed across the entire JI Division, generating a total of 7 425 kWp. This results in approximately 5,5 GWh of electricity per year – equivalent to the annual energy consumption of nearly 1 580 households.

By 2030, our target is that 60% of all energy we consume comes from renewable sources, and that all sites owned by the Joris Ide Division have solar panels installed on their roofs.

Solar panel installations

Solar panels Hille, Zwevezele, Belgium

The solar panel installation in Hille is our largest to date, with a total of 1 087 kWp. Part of the panels was installed on the roof of our purlin department, and another part on the roof of our main offices. The installation was completed in December 2020.

Solar panels Isometall & Mafer

The existing 250 kWp installation at Isometall, which has been in place since 2014, will be expanded to 1 250 kWp in 2025 — making it five times larger than it is now. At Mafer, the existing 250 kWp installation was doubled in 2020. At both sites, the electricity from the solar panels is supplemented with green power from the grid.

Further expansion of solar panels

In 2024, the solar panel projects were expanded in France: JI Auvergne and JI Sud Ouest, and in Germany: Hildesheim. Together, these three installations accounted for a total of 1 081 kWp. More solar projects are planned for 2025. In addition to the expansion at Isometall, panels will also be installed on the rooftops of JI Bretagne, JI Atlantique, and JI Normandie.

Energy Management System

ISO 50001:

The third energy target concerns ISO 50001. This target was introduced in 2025 and states that all priority sites — those consuming more than 5 GWh of energy per year — must be ISO 50001 certified by 2030. The aim of this target is to embed energy efficiency across the entire company.
