Sustainability Update

Planet Passionate

In 2023, Joris Ide Division achieved most of our Planet Passionate targets.

Energy

We are constantly expanding our solar panel capacity. By 2023, 9.6% of all energy consumed by Joris Ide Division was already self-generated.

Did you know that by 2030, 20% of all energy consumed must be self-generated on site?

Solar Panels

One of our  targets is to have solar panels on 46% of our wholly owned sites by 2024, which will definitely be achieved in Joris Ide Division, as this will be 65% at the end of the year. In 2023, solar panels were installed at 7 additional sites: Ansbach, Bolszewo, Tomaszow, Buzias, Buftea, Baicoi and Jihlava. In 2024, this will be extended to several sites in France, Hildesheim and to our new Vilnius site. An expansion is also planned in Isometall in 2024.

Did you know that Isometall currently has 1250 solar panels on the roof and these will be expanded with 2564 by 2024? This gives a total of 3814 solar panels which is good for 1365 kWp.

Water

Six rainwater projects were completed in 2023. Rainwater consumption has increased from 1 million litres in 2022 to 1.4 million litres in 2023. This will increase further in 2024 due to 5 additional rainwater projects to be completed in Lempdes, Loisy-sur-Marne, Bolszewo, Tomaszow and Vilnius.

By the end of this year, 16% of the total water consumed in Joris Ide Division will come from rainwater. This puts us well above the target of 8.5% to be achieved by 2024.

Did you know that within JI Division, our current installations consume approximately 1.4 million liters of rainwater per year?

Waste

We've achieved zero waste to landfill for PIR. For municipal waste, our focus is on enhancing segregation efforts to increase recycling rates. Additionally, we're actively seeking new partnerships, particularly in France, to transition away from landfilling municipal waste towards alternative processing methods. Our primary challenge lies in recycling mineral fibre, which poses significant practical difficulties. Nonetheless, we remain committed to exploring innovative solutions to prevent mineral fiber from reaching landfills. We didn't achieve our target "waste to landfill". This remains the forecast for 2024 as well.

Goals for 2024

For 2024, we put our focus mainly on further expanding the PV arsenal and decarbonising the machines with start-up in Oostkamp.

Since 2021, we have reduced our CO2 impact (scope 1 and 2) by more than 50%. To reduce that even further, we have big plans to bring our roadmap for phase 2 of decarbonisation live in 2024. After phase 1 of decarbonisation: Converting non-renewable electricity contracts to renewable contracts and switching from LPG to BioLPG for as many of our sites as possible, the focus is now on decarbonising panel lines at Isometall (MF) and Oostkamp (PIR). The panel lines in Isometall currently operate on fuel oil and the ones in Oostkamp on natural gas. So with this decarbonisation, we will replace the use of fossil fuels with the use of electricity.
