Tjakko Piening and Melvin Brouwer
career stories
Tjakko Piening and Melvin Brouwer have both been working at Stadskanaal, our business unit in The Netherlands, for quite a while. The two production workers tell us more about their job at joris ide.
My name is Tjakko. I started working for SDW at the age of 16 and now, at the age of 36, I work for Joris Ide. I used to work mostly with individual contracts, but after Joris Ide took over I immediately got a permanent contract.
I mainly work on the 35 profile production line, although that can sometimes change to other profiles. I do this job in two shifts: the morning shift and the afternoon shift. I am a real morning person, so I prefer to work during the early shift.
I have noticed that ever since Joris Ide took over the company, things have sped up. I personally experienced all the internal changes from A to Z. In the beginning, the frequent changes of direct colleagues were a bit difficult for me, but in the meantime I have found my way and I am happy with my job.
At Stadskanaal, they just started building a new section. For me, that is a sign there really is a future for the branch here. I am very curious about the new building and the brand new machines that will be installed. We are definitely improving!
My name is Melvin. I started working at SDW in Stadskanaal in 2011. I left before the company was taken over by Joris Ide, but after the takeover Joris Ide asked if I would like to come back. I gladly said yes and I certainly do not regret that decision. It takes about 10 minutes to cycle from my house to work and that's a good thing too.
The transition from SDW to Joris Ide hasn’t been easy for me. The work pressure, new people, a different organisation... It took some getting used to. The biggest difference before and after Joris Ide is that now we really work. In the past, there were occasional lapses of attention and things weren't always done correctly. Now, I am really satisfied with my work and I also got a permanent contract for the first time.
As for the new building and the brand new production lines, for me it is yet another challenge. The organisation is clearly continuing to grow and I find that very exciting.
